L'Angolo is our favorite BYOB in all of Philadelphia. John and his staff do a remarkable job not only with food but with service. Every dish is meticulously, prepared and presented, which is astounding considering what a small kitchen they are working in! The ingredients are fresh, and as I mentioned, the preparation is fantastic. They have a dish for every taste and their desserts are just as good. If you have not tried this little gem yet, you are most certainly missing out.

Phenomenal! This place is an institution, minimal seating. Very affordable for the quality of what you're getting. Lamb shank on special was incredibly tender. The ricotta gnocchi was great as well. Mussels in red broth were fantastic. The mussels themselves were quality. I appreciate that the restaurant has no "online presence" , just come in and you will not be disappointed. Also BYOB.

My first timing dining out in Philly and L'Angolo did not disappoint! First, the place is nice and quaint. White cloth on table like set, and small and intimate. I had the papperdelle lobster and shrimp for dinner and it was GOOD. I'm not a seafood and pasta person usually but I would get this again for sure. So flavorful and and lobster and shrimp was perfectly cooked. The food came out quickly as well which really shows great service. All in all it was a great dining experience and I would go again for sure.

BYOB! So bring some wine and have a time. Very very cozy, romantic, cute space. A little more casual, pretty small so I wouldn't come here in more than groups of 4. Staff was lovely, meals were pretty tasty, I'd definitely recommend!

L'Angolo was a 10/10 in my book! Absolutely no complaints dining here in the slightest! I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a few months now. A friend of mine from South Jersey recommended this resturant as one of their families favorites. Her family is as Italian as they come so I knew it was going to be amazing! Ambiance is nothing to write home about. A little hole in the wall place but it's warm / inviting and makes you feel like you're dining in your Nonna's kitchen at home. We sat down in the bar seating because there wasn't a main room option when we got to the restaurant. We asked the staff and they said they couldn't accommodate but they ended up being able to seat us in the main room! So we were happy! All the servers are attentive and very friendly! You're wondering about the food so don't worry I'll tell you in extensive detail... Upon being seated you are giving some delicious fresh Italian bread with a delicious olive oil, red pepper delicious dipping sauce. I couldn't stop going for more with it sitting in front of me! Too tempting. We decided to go with the pan seared smoked mozzarella and this delicious deconstructed stuffed mushroom dish. I really loved both as each was unique in their own way. The smoked mozzarella was very tasty, perfectly cooked, tasty balsamic and the roasted red peppers were a great compliment to this dish all around. The mushroom appetizer didn't look too pretty but tasted AMAZING. I would go back just to have this dish alone. It was so simple but delicious and they really did their own fun/ simple flare on a stuffed mushroom dish. For our entrees, we split the veal Parmesan with spaghetti and the spaghetti scoglio. Both were phenomenal. The veal parm was thin and so tender. The sauce was a bit sweet and I prefer my red sauce that way! It was terrific and tasted just like Nonna would make ! The seafood pasta was delicious as well. Nothing tasted fishy yet the shellfish was all very fresh. Garlic butter sauce it came in was great. For our dessert the chocolate mousse was so smooth and the cherry on top of our dinner! I cannot wait to come here for dinner again! I plan I coming back in a few weeks for a friends night out! Perfect for that, a family dinner, date night or if you're just craving some good old fashion Italian-American food! Moto bene!

My friend and I came here for a celebration last evening and it was on his list of new places to try. When I mentioned L'Angolo to several coworkers who were familiar with South Philly, every one of them gave rave reviews. So, I was really looking forward to the evening out. L'Angolo was a fantastic winner winner chicken dinner. But we both had seafood... The restaurant is tiny and intimate with about 15 or so tables, and the Terra Cotta style decor is nice and bright. It can get noisy with the tables close together but everyone is having a great time. Lots of BYOB on each table, and my friend and I were in and out in a little over an hour but they figure an hour and half for two people. With the small amount of tables turnover has to be efficient. Our server was quick and friendly giving all the specials of the evening off the tip of his tongue, and I just wanted to order every one of them. But, I went instead with the octopus salad and mixed seafood grill. My friend also had the octopus salad and chose the pappardelle pasta and lobster tail. All were outstanding. The tentacles of octopus were tender in the lemon and olive oil with some greens and tomato. My mixed grill seafood also had more octopus and a large piece of salmon along with some shrimp and potatoes. Nothing was overdone. My friend loved the homemade pappardelle, gravy (sauce), and the lobster tail was huge. We continued our celebration with some dessert. Chocolate mousse cake for me and a pistachio ricotta cake for my friend. We both had espresso, and the desserts were quickly eaten. We killed our BYOB bottle of Verdi and small bottle of Reisling which saved some money. Overall, we had a great meal and definitely would return. My friend did say he got lucky with the reservation as this place consistently fills up quickly. $200 for two included tax and tip for two salads, two mains, two desserts, and two espresso. What a great evening!

Came here tonight as a last minute Valentine's Day dinner. We didn't have reservations, but we were down the street as we were picking up our daughter. I must say this little hole in the wall was beyond my expectations. I pass by it 5 days a week on the way home and I always say it's so small, but once you walk in, wow the place was beautiful! There is outdoor seating on very nice weather season from spring to fall. Food was delicious and staff was very friendly. They even gave us a slice of their chocolate cake for my daughter as dessert since we were full. She approves and so do we. If you ever pass by the restaurant, don't let it fool you because of the looks on the outside.

I absolutely love this restaurant!! While it may be a little tight it's perfect! The staff is always pleasant and the food will never disappoint! There are always appetizer and entree specials. My favorite, and one of the reasons I always pick L'Angolo is for the grilled octopus over potato salad!! Wow!

Truly a unique Philly neighborhood dining experience. The restaurant was microscopic and people were coming in droves from dinner. They have eeked out tables in every inch of the space. We chose this location for its proximity to Lincoln Financial Stadium after the Temple vs Akron game (Temple won!) Apps were the star of the show. We had the beet salad and smoked mozzarella. Entrees were a hit and a miss. Spaghetti Bolognese was 5 stars. Sauce was hearty and rich. I wish it had a heartier noodle. Daughter had the Shrimp Gnocchi. The shrimp were large and hearty. They were delicious. However the gnocchi were a -2. They were oversized, doughy balls. They were more like dumplings that belonged in a pot of southern chicken and dumplings. They were larger than quarters and just too doughy. The cream sauce that covered them was made with a seafood stock that was too fishy. This entree just killed our experience. We sat outside and it was delightful to watch the people in the neighborhood. Weather was just perfect. Service was lightning fast. I have no idea how they produced food as fast as they did from the tiny open kitchen. We ate and were out the door in about 35 minutes. Pro-tip- restaurant is BYOB. They do not sell wine. That was disappointing.
